Do you need an interlock in Arizona?
If you have any Arizona DUI conviction — including a standard first offense at 0.08 BAC — you need an interlock to reinstate your license. Arizona’s program is administrative: MVD requires it as a condition of reinstatement regardless of what the court orders. You cannot get your license back without installing a device from an MVD-approved provider.
The BAC tier matters for your duration. A standard first offense means 12 months with an early-deferment option. An “extreme” DUI (BAC 0.15–0.19) is still 12 months but without early deferment. A “super extreme” DUI (BAC 0.20 or higher) means 18 months. Second and third offenses within 84 months escalate further.

How to get installed — 5 steps
- Confirm your reinstatement eligibility and IID requirement through AZ MVD NOW.
- Call an MVD-approved provider above and book installation — most can get you in the same week.
- Bring your vehicle and ID. Installation takes 60–90 minutes. A $20 state fee is collected at install.
- Submit your installation certificate to MVD to activate your Special Ignition Interlock Restricted Driver License (SIIRDL).
- Keep every calibration appointment and maintain a clean record to qualify for early deferment if eligible.
Violations that extend your term
Arizona’s violation schedule is specific and automatic:
- 2 or more failed tests at 0.08+ in a month → +6 months
- 3 consecutive missed rolling retests → +6 months
- Tampering or circumvention → +6 to 12 months
- Driving a non-IID vehicle during the restriction period → +12 months
