ALCOLOCK Review (2026): What’s Published, What Isn’t
ALCOLOCK is a smaller player than Intoxalock or Smart Start, and it publishes far less about pricing than its competitors do. What it does state is a lease cost of roughly $2 to $3 a day, plus promotions in some states. That’s a reasonable ballpark, but it’s the thinnest published pricing of the six major providers — so a written quote matters more here than anywhere else.
ALCOLOCK’s published daily rate is competitive with the market, and in states where it’s certified it’s worth a quote. But it publishes no installation figure, no calibration cost and no removal fee, so you can’t price a full term from public information the way you can with Smart Start. Get everything in writing before you commit.

What ALCOLOCK costs
ALCOLOCK publishes a daily lease figure and little else. The table below is deliberately short, because inventing the missing numbers would be worse than admitting they aren’t public.
| Monthly lease (from $2–3 a day) | About $60–90 |
| Installation | ⚠ Not published |
| Calibration | ⚠ Not published |
| Removal | ⚠ Not published |
| State program fee | Varies — see your state page |
Lease only, calculated from the published $2–3 per day. Excludes installation, calibration, removal and state fees — none of which ALCOLOCK publishes. Your real total will be meaningfully higher, so treat these as a floor rather than an estimate.
- The installation fee — it isn’t published anywhere
- Calibration cost and how often your state requires visits
- The removal fee
- Whether a free-installation or free-first-month promotion applies in your state
- Lockout, violation and missed-appointment charges
- Whether ALCOLOCK is certified in your state, and where the nearest service center is
Pros and cons
- Published daily lease rate is competitive with the larger providers
- Free installation and free first month promotions run in some states
- Worth a quote as a second opinion against a bigger provider’s price
- Publishes no installation, calibration or removal cost
- Smaller network than the major providers ⚠ not published
- Less state-level pricing detail than Smart Start or LifeSafer
- Harder to verify a quote against public information
How it works day to day
Testing
As with any interlock, you give a breath sample to start the vehicle and again at random intervals while driving. Avoid mouthwash and hand sanitiser before testing, and rinse with water if you’ve used them.
Before you commit
Because so little is published, ask for a full written fee schedule — installation, monthly lease, calibration, lockout, removal — before you book. If a provider won’t put the full schedule in writing, that itself is useful information.
Checking approval
Confirm ALCOLOCK appears on your state’s certified-vendor list. Smaller providers aren’t certified everywhere, and an unapproved device won’t satisfy your order.
Should you choose ALCOLOCK?
Is ALCOLOCK approved in your state?
ALCOLOCK is not certified in every state. Check your state’s certified-vendor list first — this matters more with smaller providers than with the national ones.
